Helsingborg RecoLab

The RecoLab in Helsingborg's Oceanhamnen district opened on 5 May 2021. The Recolab is a test/research facility with a unique innovative and sustainable wastewater treatment plant. In the homes and buildings, grey and black water is collected and processed separately. The kitchens are also equipped with a grinder for processing food waste.

For this new sanitation system, Desah already won the Swedish innovation prize in the "Blackwater and Food Waste Challenge" in the "Treatment Plant" category in 2015, aimed at recycling waste streams. The jury report stated, "Desah has developed a compact wastewater treatment plant. A concept that contributes to increased recirculation of water, nutrients and energy." In 2022, the same project won the Global Water Award in the Wastewater Project of the Year category.

Desah was commissioned to execute the design created, focusing on recovering valuable raw materials such as fertilisers and biogas as well as heat recovery.

Desah is responsible for:

  • Toilet water fermentation (black water)
  • Fermentation of kitchen organic waste
  • Hygienisation of sludge
  • Greywater treatment
  • Heat recovery

Client :

  • NSVA (North-West Skåne's Water and Avlopp AB)

Recolab is part of the Run4Life demo site Oceanhamnen in Helsingborg.
