Canadian project developer Belrose Farms started a demonstration project with the University of Alberta at the end of 2016 with the innovative wastewater concept of DeSaH.
The project developer set up the company Waterwerkx for this purpose.

The objective of this full-scale demonstration project is to demonstrate the relevance, feasibility and economic value of a decentralised wastewater treatment system that will be suitable for more locations in Canada. A general cost saving of 25% compared to conventional wastewater treatment is one of the starting points. In addition, sustainable energy will be produced (biogas), nutrients will be recovered, and the use of drinking water will be reduced.

In the new housing district to be built (about 1500 inhabitants) located on the Sturgeon river, near Edmonton, both a black water and a grey water treatment system will be implemented. The black water treatment plant will be operational by the end of 2019.
