Helsingborg is one of the fastest growing cities in Sweden. It is expected that in 15 years the city has attracted more than 40,000 new residents. To meet this grow, 1,000 new homes are being built each year. One of the first new districts is Oceanhamnen, part of the H+ project.
In the Oceanhamnen district, a new innovative and sustainable wastewater treatment facility will be implemented. The new residences and office buildings will be equipped with vacuum toilets and kitchen grinders. Black and grey wastewater will be collected and treated separated at source.

With this new sanitation design, DeSaH already won the Swedish innovation prize in 2015 in the "Blackwater and Food Waste Challenge" in the category "Treatment plant", aimed at the recycling of waste streams. The jury report states: "DeSaH has developed a compact wastewater treatment plant, a concept that contributes to an increased recirculation of water, nutrients and energy."

Desah now received the order to realize the sanitation system, emphasizing the recovery of valuable raw materials such as fertilizer and biogas, as well as heat recovery.

Desah is responsible for:

  • Digestion of toilet water (black water)
  • Digestion of food waste
  • Hygienization of sludge
  • Gray water treatment
  • Heat recovery

Client:

  • NSVA (North-West Skåne’s Water and Avlopp AB)
