Sneek hospital
A demonstration site for hospital water treatment does not yet exist anywhere in the Netherlands or Europe. The demo site at Antonius Hospital in Sneek is unique for this reason, but also because 3 water streams will be available:
- Complete hospital wastewater. For existing hospitals, it will not be easy to disconnect wastewater from specific departments and treat it separately. There, treatment of the total wastewater stream is the obvious choice.
- Toilet water from the departments with the highest consumption of cytostatics and antibiotics. By collecting wastewater at source and treating it separately, the relevant drugs can be removed most easily. For hospitals with new construction plans, it can therefore make great sense to disconnect the wastewater from certain departments and treat it separately.
- Wastewater from separation toilets in certain departments, which collect urine and faeces separately. In this way, the specific treatment of urine can also be investigated in more detail. Treatment of hospital water is new. Much research and testing is still needed to develop suitable treatment techniques for this type of wastewater.
