Unique demonstration site
In cooperation with Antonius Hospital, Desah developed the first-ever demonstration site for the treatment of hospital wastewater. This unique site in Sneek provides a valuable testing ground for testing and improving sustainable purification techniques.
Wastewater from various departments from the hospital is fed to this site. Companies can further develop and perfect their technologies here. The demo site is equipped with all necessary facilities. This is a 5-year pilot project.

What does the pilot include
At the demo site, three water streams are collected and treated separately. First, it is the total hospital wastewater. For existing hospitals, it is often difficult to separate wastewater streams per department, making treatment of the entire wastewater stream an obvious solution. In addition, specific toilet water is collected from departments with high use of antibiotics and cytostatics. By collecting this wastewater directly at source, medicine residues can be removed more effectively; a relevant approach for hospitals with new construction or renovation plans. Finally, wastewater from separating toilets on certain wards is also collected separately. Here, urine and faeces are collected separately, so that targeted processing of, for example, nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphate can also be investigated.

- Research in practice
- Targeted drug removal
- Modularly applicable
- Nutrient recovery
