Aeration and sedimentation are used in both steps. In the first step (A stage), organic material is broken down by adsorption and in the second step (B stage) by bio-oxidation. Between these steps is an oxygen-free (anaerobic) phase where nitrogen and phosphate are removed. The result is a treated effluent that can be discharged or reused. The container design makes it a scalable and mobile solution that can be quickly started up without major civil work (plug & play). Na binnenkomst in het inlaatkanaal kan het systeem worden afgesloten met een stoplog of sluice gate, zodat het volledige kanaaldeel veilig kan worden drooggezet voor inspectie en onderhoud. Vervolgens vindt de voorfiltratie plaats via een grofrooster waarbij vuil wordt verwijderd. In de daaropvolgende filtratiefase wordt het water door een microzeef geleid waarbij de deeltjesgrootte wordt gereduceerd tot circa twee à drie millimeter om zo een continue doorstroming naar het proces te waarborgen.
